She was consistent in wanting more time. She wanted me to quit the literary magazine; to move off campus and socialize with her circle. I wanted to read.

She was socially ambitious. She wanted acceptance into the clique of older students who lived in town, snorted coke, and slept with professors. I cared only for people who could help me with the things I wanted to learn.

She shopped in thrift stores 'cause it was kitsch. I bought my clothes there.
