Guilt.

The mistakes one makes, outcomes not of maliciousness but of confusion, of defensiveness, of miscommunication. The results are the same. Pain and turmoil and upset loved ones, so that you look back and wonder what you could have been thinking.

It's so hard to get these things right. Which demonstrates, at least, in a glass-is-half-full kind of way, how deep your commitment goes.
