Inflation. Record high gas prices. Record federal budget deficits. A war we never should have begun and can't possibly win. A Chief Executive who values loyalty, secrecy, and revenge. 1972? No! 2004! It's... That '70s Show!

The parallel is less glib than this makes it seem. Bush is the return of Nixon, from his morbid secrecy to his disdain for lawfulness to his vengefulness toward perceived enemies. They even share the same peculiar adulation of Teddy Roosevelt. The major differences are that on nearly every matter of public importance Nixon was well to the left of Bush, and that Nixon knew when to quit.

History repeats?

Which would be cool, if Led Zeppelin would tour again.
