The higher probability is you'd have screwed it up, through selfishness, inexperience, lack of skills, lack of insight.
If you could reset the game clock to that moment in time, what would you find? You can say certainly that she would have been better for you than the ones you wound up with.
It seems that even after 37 years she has similar regrets.
