I loved the house at first. Huge, dramatic, characterful. When it first became clear it would be necessary to leave I felt heartbreak and anxiety.

Now the space feels dark, cramped, and unhappy.

Parallels the relationship with the dismal landlady, a woman who's chosen deliberately to make herself a nightmare to all those around her.
