Hurt, confusion, anger, disbelief. My journal is full of these emotions, almost from the beginning of our time together.

Years later this is what broke us up: her reflex to stomp off in a huff. All the many times she drove away, a character trait she still frequently acted on with new lovers long after we were done.

For me: insecurity, stress that the wrong word would set her off, feeling of being punished, that love and approval were being withdrawn and withheld.

I reckon it was her way of claiming control.
