They were so much younger.

I thought of them as ancient. Blue-haired, doddering, speaking in broken voices.

They were forty, tops. Late thirties.

My grandmother's age. Thirty-nine.

Everyone looked older then. They acted older. The world was old. It wasn't until the Beatles and the 1960s that it became young again.
