I was overwhelmingly naive and wrong back then because I had the ridiculous belief that people grow up. I thought, "We need more time and experience and once we've learned we'll be able to fix our problems." Today I hate myself for being so stupid.

People don't grow up, they just become more like themselves and that's us, now. Many of the same destructive behaviors but now they're more strongly embedded, or maybe it would be more helpful to say that now we're comfortable with them and accepting of them as who we are.
