October 11, 2005. Moorea, French Polynesia.
Arriving via the Papeete ferry too early for my room to be ready, I rented a car for half a day and circled the island. Later, I explored on foot the area around my hotel and the east side of Cook's Bay.
Moorea is often said to rival Bora Bora as the most beautiful tall island in the Pacific. Unlike any other Pacific island, its silhouette is jagged, more like Yosemite than the typically more weathered, rounded Pacific. It is jaw-droppingly beautiful.
