Man at a party says he was once a campus political activist. Antiwar, that kind of thing. But he quit because, "There were people involved who were there for other reasons."

I'm sure there were.

Some were there for social purposes. Hanging out with people they liked.

Some were there to have their heads stroked. Receive an ego charge from being a leader.

Some were moralizers, holier-than-thou types who receive a different kind of ego charge from being more perfect than others.

Some, sad to tell, were cops. Oddly enough they're not hard to spot. They're the ones who argue over trivia, form factions, spread gossip and innuendo, and attempt to incite violence. Your tax dollars at work.

And then there are some who are simply confused. Like the fellow from the party, who in truth was a right-wing bigot of the most crass complexion.

Fuck him.
