In anger you throw a paintbrush past your mother, a small paintbrush like a child uses to paint model airplanes, and it spatters gray paint alongside her mouth. By the time you fetch a washcloth for her she's rubbed it all over her chin, and you notice that it's also on the base of the lamp alongside the wall.
