The woman he bonded with most deeply was a sub; long after they parted he keeps the habit - conditioned response - of peremptorily commanding those he finds attractive. He and the pretty waitress are master and slave; the young girl behind the airline counter is to do exactly as she's told.
"Counting the stairs one by one," he says. "OCD."
He's a failure and a fraud, and he blames others for his failures. Not yet thirty and his career is winding down. The end of his arc will be lonely and sad, and desperate.
