Single bed. Crazy quilt his great-grandmother made for him. Notebook, pen, red shirt, Civil War in China. Tetracycline, deodorant, water; electric razor in its case on the floor next to Central America Alert and running shoes. Photo album; a watch with no band. Right hand on his cheek: home from college.

The space is so small. If he stretched far enough he could touch both walls.
