The landlady shows signs of addiction. Habitual lies, frequent thefts, continual rationalization in a peculiarly childish mode which is transparent and profoundly ineffectual.

All the people around her are offended. There's no-one who expresses respect or affection.

Medical Doctor. Is she dipping into her little black bag?
