The bedroom of your new house is shared with your ex's bedroom, an undifferentiated space with your respective things on either side. Less awkward than you might have imagined: you're actually speaking to one another before long. But intervention is required to make true peace: a small child bouncing on your bed, asking questions of you both. She's the clown who speaks truth, and to the pair of you she demands, "What's the matter with you two?"
