July 16, 2014:
Running, hiding, learning to fight. A dragon, a monster, intelligent, malefic; its human minions zombie-like and virtually indestructible. We resistance fighters have a rendezvous planned, under trees in a park on a hillside overlooking the devastated city. But before we can make it there we're ambushed by minions, always amid the fear of death from above, the dragon himself, curse of the world. Run, run, down, stairwells, from your apartment where they were waiting, around corners, down concrete steps, down and down, an underground parking garage that becomes its own world, a civilization where parrots made up as young girls sing show tunes, the wonder of their similitude temporarily masking the horrors of death.
