July 2, 2015:
Life among the oaks. Old oaks, tall, loud with squirrel chatter, public, each tree its own village, swaying, dappled, dropping leaves and nuts.
Crows on patrol, calling out, complaining. Wild turkeys trot, heavy in the underbrush. Striped gray cat jumps from roof to balcony railing, startled to see me, her balance so perfect it's breathtaking, in her mouth an empty bird's nest.
Easy breeze carries distant sounds of helicopters, lawn mowers, car engines straining on a grade. I'm half asleep, but hear a hummingbird investigating. "Hey buddy!", I say. After coming closer for a moment she sprints away.
What then would I do at home?
This will do for now.
