Again what hits me hardest is how tiny is the Argive Vale.
I remember realizing from the bus window: We're looking at Argos, and Tiryns, and Mycenae — this is all there is to it.
The kingdoms, the legends, the ships and armies which destroyed mighty Troy. Centered on a small valley you can easily view end-to-end from atop any low hill.
Today we talk over the same thought. The world was so, so, so much bigger then, like returning to your grammar school and realizing how close the drinking fountains are to the ground.
