Denim caballero, wide stance, Stetson, thumbs on buckle. It's May, 1963, the hills are black and white, just like Dr. Strangelove.
Later they became the Hatfields and the McCoys, as pregnancies and interdicted marriages ricocheted through the backwoods. Here they're childhood pals, on a cart pulled by a family cow. One of the few pics so far of family members in the fields. My guess would be 1930 ish.
The old folks, overalls, spectacles, hands in pockets. Even when they were children this family looks old.
