December 22, 2019:
They tell me I've written the best faculty evaluation in the history of the school.
I'm gobsmacked. It's just a summary of feedback received from students. "Somebody said this, someone else said this other." That counts as greatness?
I'm embarrassed. I say the first thing I can think of to waive the compliment off. "Ha! You should see the state I was in when I wrote it." Implying I was high, which I wasn't.
I'm unsettled. It makes me feel that the educational philosophy I've so bought into and the institution which materializes it are compromised by mediocrity.
