February 19, 2021:
The contemporary holiday of Christmas originates in two very different pagan traditions.
The pagan Roman holiday of Saturnalia was held at the winter solstice. From it we receive compulsory gift-giving and the date of December 25. The yule tree is from northern European pagan tradition. Both of these sources are pre-Christian and neither has been in any way transformed by their absurd conflation with Jesus.
Thus it was from strictly religious conviction that I rejected the holiday in my mid-teens.
