I tried once to point out to her that from her perspective in the passenger seat the speedometer appears to point to a slightly different number than it does when viewed straight on. She thought I was lying.
For her there is only surface. Perception — her perception — is faithfully real. No Heraclitean or Parmenidean or Democritian evocation of reason over appearance can possibly be legitimate. Any argument to the contrary is by definition manipulative.
