It's striking that my friends from that period resent Professor Falstaff as much as I do. For similar reasons. His favoritism, his cliquishness, his unwillingness to be helpful. For many of us, our real educations began after escape from Johnston, when we were freed to finally find useful resources. People committed to helpfulness, who would answer questions without a smirk and a pose of sophisticate irony.
It's instructive to imagine what #MeToo might have meant to that milieu. The faculty would all be in prison. Professor Falstaff on the chain gang, breaking rocks.
So much time, so much time, so much time, so much time. What, in the end, difference would difference truly have meant?
