His ideas were always brilliant. His enthusiasm may have mattered more.
Because his brilliance gave weight to his judgments, his approval was especially meaningful. His encouragement then became my milestone: he liked what I was doing so much that he wanted to be part of it; and that changed my world.
Later it was unavoidable that his level of contribution was low. His very famous band had fired him for that reason. They were right, but I was loyal, and there was a time when we each benefited.
In the end it was Lady MacBeth who destroyed our collaboration and our friendship. The band had been right about her, too. She had her own agenda, which did not include me.
My heart was already broken. How much did the new heartbreak add?
