February 16, 2023:

You don't know history.

You don't know Marx, the Annales, the history from below movement, discourse history, new cultural history, Poststructuralism, subaltern studies, postcolonial or decolonial historiography, cliometric history.

You don't know the difference between idealist versus materialist historiography, indeed I suspect you don't know these terms and if you did would vehemently reject materialism on principle.

You know a smattering of "classical" or traditional historiography, overlaid with a strongly Positivist ideological filter insisting on an upward curve of betterment over time.

You seem to be incapable of even thinking alternatives. Wars and weapons are steadily more deadly. No! The movement against the Vietnam war was unprecedented.

Was it? The movement against American imperialism at the end of the 19th century was pretty serious. You don't know it existed.

Your focus on Vietnam serves a purpose: it flatters your narcissism. Anti-Vietnam was unprecedented because you participated. That is the beginning and the end and perfectly encapsulates everything you think you know about history.
