March 12, 2023:

Disrespectful of colleagues' time.

Habitually late. Often with excuses: Previous meeting running over, be there in fifteen. Starting times change, people wander in and out. Meetings are scheduled back to back to back all day without breaks. "Does anyone have anything else they want to bring up?" Or scheduled for five hours when there's three hours of content.

The most ridiculous practice is starting large team meetings with an irrelevant personal question. "What's your favorite domestic chore?" "What's something you can't live without?" Offered as Mind Cleanser intended to clear the cranium for focus on the meeting to come. With the unspoken yet pointedly patronizing assumption that professionals don't arrive at team meetings already focused and ready to participate.

If mind cleansers are necessary before meetings, why not start every meeting with one, including 1-on-1s? I have the sinking feeling that they probably do.
