June 1, 2024:
Jogger on the riverbank. Shirtless, running shorts. Distant figure, turning red — bright red — under late morning sun.
I am concerned about heat. I'm under a big hat, carrying water. But the trail around the park is concrete, bright white wide and reflective, so that radiation comes from all directions without mercy. I want to be more healthy. I do not want to collapse from dehydration or prostration.
So then: do the things. Carefully note the shade below trees, inside gazebos, if ever there's need to rest. Always carry a phone. Always bring water. Prepared, boyscout style. Prepared and doubtless somewhat paranoid, boyscout style, at age 66.
